Lord Of The Flies Book Cover | Illustration

This project started with choosing a book from my childhood that I remember making an impact on my life, and creating book cover illustration that emphasizes the story through using greyscale value. I decided to choose Willam Golding’s “Lord Of The Flies” because it’s always been one of my favorite reads and its subject mater contains heavy symbolism allowing for me to express the messaging through all sorts of hidden details and meanings.

Behind The Illustration

For this book cover my main focus was to convey the heavy symbolism seen throughout reading the novel. Highlighting the social hierarchy the boys face in the story in a literal way comparing them to noble dressed pigs. The king pig representing Jack and his entitlement towards leadership, Piggy wearing his glasses symbolizing intelligence, the conch shell representing order, and a few others. All these details have symbolic meanings found through reading the story.
